Beginners need the California Tax Education Council (CTEC) 60 Hours Qualifying Course.  Then the annual 20 Hours Continuing Education course.  A California Registered Tax Preparer (CRTP) can get their 20 hours of continuing education live at our annual national convention.

This course has been approved by the California Tax Education Council (2080-QE-001), which fulfills the 60-hour qualifying education requirement imposed by the state of California to become a tax preparer. A listing of additional requirements to register as a tax preparer may be obtained by contacting CTEC at P.O. Box 2890, Sacramento, CA, 95812-2890 or 1-877-850-2832 or visiting the web page www.CTEC.org. 

After each chapter the student will complete online review questions and Practice Tax Returns. The Practice Tax Return is in PDF format and includes the necessary forms to complete a tax return by hand prior to answering questions. Returns containing Schedule A are prepared with state income tax withholding on line 5 and the additional state specific taxes such as CASDI. Practice Tax Returns are based on the material covered so far.

In order to fulfill CTEC requirements you will take 3 separate finals. The ethics final will consist of 10 questions directly after Chapter 1. The California Tax Law final will be at the end of all of the chapters and consists of 75 questions and the federal final will be administered right after the California Tax Law and will consists of 215 questions. You must pass all three finals with a 70% or better before your certificate of completion will be available to print.

In order to be able to view the e-book on your Android and Apple phone you need to go to the app store and download the free 3-D Issue app. This will enable the application to be viewed offline.

     I.        2 Hours Ethics

    II.        3 Hours Federal and State Updates

  III.        10 Hours Federal Tax Law

   IV.        5 Hours California Tax Law

You will need to complete the individual final exam in the 4 parts. Do not skip to the last “Final” and think that you will receive your 20 hours.

Once your Certificate of Completion has been printed; LTPA will upload your continuing education hours to IRS and CTEC within 10 business days. Your course is not completed until your hours have been reported to CTEC.

You need to register yearly with CTEC by October 31 to avoid paying a penalty. If you do not register by January 15; you will need to retake the 60 hour course again.  

 

Don’t delay your hours being uploaded; make sure your PTIN and CTEC number are entered in your profile page.

Your course is not completed until your hours have been reported to CTEC! Once you have printed your certificate we will upload your continuing education hours to IRS and CTEC within 10 business days. You need to register with CTEC by October 31, 2015.

This course offers 3 hours of continuing education on the latest updates on federal and California tax law changes. The student must pass with a 70% or better. Once you have completed the course you will need to print your certificate which is suitable for framing. Once you have printed your certificate LTPA will upload your continuing education hours to the IRS within 72 business hours.

CTEC requires that the CRTP renew their registration by October 31st. LTPA has 10 business days to upload your information to CTEC. If you complete your course on October 31st you may have to pay a late registration fee to CTEC. If you do not complete your continuing education by January 15, you may have to take the qualifying education course again.
